Before you read on, read this.

How to use this site when someone might be watching, and where to turn right now.

Right now

MySistas is a sisterhood, not a crisis service. If you are in immediate danger, call 911. If you are thinking about harming yourself, call or text 988, any hour of the day.

  • Emergency: call 911.
  • Suicide and crisis: call or text 988, any hour.
  • National Domestic Violence Hotline: call 1-800-799-7233, TTY 1-800-787-3224, or text START to 88788. Free, confidential, 24 hours.

The Leave quickly button

Every page in the Sisterhood has a "Leave quickly" button. One tap opens a plain search page in a new tab and replaces this page with a weather site, so nothing about MySistas stays on your screen. Pressing Escape twice within a second does the same thing from the keyboard. If you were signed in, it also signs you out on our side, so coming back to this tab later does not show a member page.

What it cannot do. No website can erase your browsing history, and we will not pretend this one can. This page can still appear in your history, and deleting history can itself be noticed by someone who checks. The safest path is a device the other person cannot touch: a library computer, a work computer, a trusted friend's phone.

If your device may be monitored

  • Use a device the other person does not have access to, and an account they cannot open.
  • If someone else can read your email, sign in here with a password. We will never email you a way in unless you ask for one.
  • Choose a display name that does not identify you. Every profile field stays private until you turn it on.
  • Location sharing, shared photo libraries and "find my" features can reveal where you are. Turn them off on the device you use for this.

Two organizations explain this better than we can: WomensLaw, Safety while using the internet, and the Safety Net project at techsafety.org.

MySistas is a community organization, not a shelter, not therapy, not a crisis line. If the numbers above are what you need tonight, use them first. We will still be here.
